This privacy policy explains how the ShopiLab Web Analytics Chrome Extension collects, uses, and protects your data.
The ShopiLab Web Analytics Extension is designed with privacy in mind. We collect minimal data necessary to provide real-time website analytics in your browser's side panel.
Data We Collect
The Chrome Extension collects only the following data:
- License Key — Your ShopiLab license key is stored locally in your browser to authenticate your subscription and validate access to the Website Traffic Checker feature.
- Device ID — A unique identifier for your browser is generated and stored locally to enforce the 2-device limit per license. This helps prevent unauthorized sharing of accounts.
- Current Tab URL — When you open the extension, we read the URL of your current active tab to fetch relevant analytics data for that website. This data is sent to our servers only to retrieve analytics information.
- Extension Usage — We track which websites you use the extension on to provide relevant analytics and improve our service.
How We Use Your Data
We use the collected data for the following purposes:
- Authentication — License key validates your subscription status and ensures you have access to the Website Traffic Checker feature.
- Device Management — Device ID enforces the 2-device limit to prevent unauthorized account sharing.
- Analytics Display — Current tab URL is used to fetch and display website analytics data from SimilarWeb for the site you're viewing.
- Service Improvement — Usage patterns help us understand how users interact with the extension to improve functionality.
Data Storage
Local Storage: Your license key and device ID are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. This data never leaves your device except for authentication requests to our servers.
Server Storage: When you activate a device, we store your device ID on our servers along with your license key to validate authorization. Current tab URLs are processed in real-time and are not stored permanently on our servers.
Data Sharing
We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
Analytics data displayed in the extension comes from SimilarWeb, a third-party analytics provider. We query their API with the domain you're viewing, but we do not share your personal information with them.
Permissions Explained
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
- sidePanel
Required to display the analytics dashboard in Chrome's side panel interface.
- storage
Store your license key and device ID locally in your browser for authentication.
- activeTab
Read the URL of your current active tab to fetch analytics data for the website you're viewing.
- tabs
Detect when you switch tabs to automatically update analytics for the new website.
- Host Permission (<all_urls>)
Access all websites to detect the current domain and display relevant analytics. This permission does not allow us to read page content or personal data—only the domain name.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data. License keys are transmitted securely over HTTPS. Device authorization is validated through our secure API endpoints. Access to the extension requires a valid ShopiLab subscription and device activation.
Data Retention
Local Data: License key and device ID remain in your browser's local storage until you uninstall the extension or clear your browser data.
Server Data: Device authorization records are retained as long as your ShopiLab account is active. When you cancel your subscription or delete your account, device records are removed.
Your Privacy Rights
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Deactivate devices through your ShopiLab account settings
- Request deletion of device authorization records
- Uninstall the extension to remove all local data
- View which devices are authorized for your license
- Contact us to request data deletion or export
